Tour Description

Your Northern Argentina experience begins with a convenient transfer from Salta International Airport to your centrally located hotel, allowing you to start your stay comfortably and without worrying about arrival logistics.

During your trip, you will discover some of the most iconic landscapes in northern Argentina through two full-day excursions: a visit to the spectacular Salinas Grandes and Purmamarca, and a tour of Cafayate and the Quebrada de las Conchas.

Your first adventure begins early in the morning with departure from your hotel in Salta. The route leads to the province of Jujuy, crossing part of the Quebrada de Humahuaca and passing through traditional towns such as Yala and Volcán before reaching Purmamarca, one of the region’s most picturesque destinations.

In Purmamarca, you can admire the renowned Hill of 7 Colors, a striking natural formation that characterizes the area. You will also have time to explore the town’s streets, traditional architecture, and local craft market.

From there, you will continue toward the Lipán Pass, a spectacular mountain road that reaches approximately 4,170 meters above sea level. Along the way, you will stop at scenic viewpoints to appreciate the landscapes of the Puna and take photographs.

The main destination of this excursion is Salinas Grandes, one of the most visited salt flats in Northern Argentina. Located at approximately 3,400 meters above sea level, its immense white expanse creates a unique setting for walking, enjoying the scenery, and taking unforgettable photographs.

After visiting the salt flats, you will return to Purmamarca, where you will have free time for lunch and further exploration before beginning the return journey to Salta. The tour concludes in the afternoon at your centrally located hotel.

The second excursion takes you to Cafayate, crossing the Lerma Valley and several of its traditional villages, including Cerrillos, El Carril, Coronel Moldes, and Alemania. Along the route, you will see cultivated fields, mountain scenery, and small towns that preserve part of the region’s historical identity.

The journey continues through the spectacular Quebrada de las Conchas (Shells Gorge), where wind and water erosion have shaped some of the most iconic geological formations in the Calchaquí Valleys. You will stop to explore and photograph emblematic sites such as La Garganta del Diablo (The Devil’s Throat), El Anfiteatro (The Amphitheater), La Yesera (The Gypsum Quarry), El Sapo (The Toad), El Obelisco (The Obelisk), and Los Castillos (The Castles).

You will then arrive in Cafayate, one of northern Argentina’s principal wine-producing regions, particularly renowned for its high-altitude wines. There, you will visit a local winery to learn more about the area’s winemaking process and enjoy a tasting that includes the opportunity to sample the famous Torrontés.

Following the winery visit, you will begin the return journey to the city of Salta along the same route. The afternoon light changes the colors and contours of the Quebrada de las Conchas, offering a new perspective of its extraordinary landscapes.

To complete the experience, the package also includes a transfer from your centrally located hotel in Salta to the Airport, making your travel arrangements easier from beginning to end.

This is an ideal way to discover the Puna, high-altitude landscapes, Andean villages, the natural formations of the Calchaquí Valleys, and Cafayate’s winemaking tradition in a single trip, combining the nature, culture, and flavors of Northern Argentina.
