Our route takes us past Horn Post and onward to Tilcara, where we'll explore Pucará and the Archaeological Museum.

The next destination is Huacalera, where we cross the Tropic of Capricorn, offering views of the vibrant Pollera de la Colla Hill. We'll visit the Church of Uquía, home to the remarkable paintings of the Angels Arcabuceros, a significant piece of Cuzco style art. Our journey leads us to Humahuaca, renowned for its impressive Cathedral and the Monument to Independence (El Indio), crafted by the sculptor Soto Avendaño.

Continuing our expedition, we pass through Iturbe and Abra del Cóndor (3900 masl), arriving at a quaint gorge where the pre-Hispanic town of Iruya is nestled. Frequently Asked Questions

The private tour typically includes door-to-door transportation from Salta (or a pre-arranged location), a licensed vehicle with a professional driver/guide, and photo stops in the most iconic towns of the Quebrada de Humahuaca (such as Purmamarca, Tilcara, Humahuaca, and Uquía), as well as access to Iruya via a mountain road. As it's a private tour, the pace and stops are tailored to your preferences. Accommodation and meals may or may not be included, depending on the package selected; we recommend confirming this before booking. Museum entrance fees, tips, and personal expenses are generally not included. Please inquire about the guide's language skills, insurance coverage, and availability during peak season.

The itinerary follows the scenic route of Northwest Argentina (NOA), crossing the Humahuaca Gorge and the mountain road to Iruya. We typically depart early to take advantage of the daylight and stop at viewpoints, Andean villages, and artisan markets. Each day is usually 8 to 10 hours long, including transfers and visits, with extended driving stretches and regular breaks. The access to Iruya involves winding roads and high-altitude climbs on mountainous terrain, always subject to weather and road conditions. As this is a private tour, you can adjust the pace, choose where to have lunch, and prioritize photographic or cultural interests. Please see the day-by-day itinerary upon confirmation of your booking.

We recommend layering clothing, a windproof/warm jacket, a hat, gloves in colder months, high SPF sunscreen, UV sunglasses, a reusable water bottle, snacks, and comfortable walking shoes. Bring cash (connectivity and ATMs may be limited), your ID, and travel insurance. The altitude along the route can exceed 3,000 meters; stay hydrated, avoid alcohol and heavy meals, walk slowly, and rest if you feel fatigued. The climate is dry, with cool nights even in summer. During the rainy season (summer), the trail may be affected. If you have heart or respiratory conditions, or are pregnant, consult your doctor before traveling. Pack a trash bag for responsible tourism.

Yes, it's suitable with some considerations. The private tour allows for adjustments to schedules, stops, and walking distances for families with children and seniors. However, the road to Iruya is winding and at high altitude, so it may cause dizziness or fatigue; frequent breaks are recommended, and motion sickness medication may be necessary. In Iruya, there are cobblestone streets and steep inclines, which makes access difficult for wheelchairs or people with limited mobility; the guide can adjust the route to minimize exertion. Those with heart or respiratory conditions should consult their doctor beforehand. Please indicate in advance if you need a child seat, walking sticks, or additional assistance.

The price of a private tour to the Humahuaca Gorge and Iruya varies depending on the season, number of passengers, guide's language, and whether accommodation and meals are included. We suggest booking in advance, especially during holidays and winter breaks, to ensure availability. A deposit is usually required to secure your booking, and the balance can be paid using the methods accepted by the tour operator. Cancellation and change policies depend on the chosen plan and factors such as weather or road closures; please check them before confirming. Request a voucher with service details, support contact information (WhatsApp), and an invoice. Consider purchasing travel insurance for unforeseen circumstances.
